SOUNDSCAPES
(Bells and Gardening- creating the feeling of being 'at home')

Picture
whats an “Art and Ecology Residency” without getting your hands dirty with some time in a garden ?— I did some digging, weeding and mulching etc all making me feel at home and the best way to process new information:)
photographed here is a dead tree that was rolling around the backyard, now pruned and “re-planted” in the renewed veggie garden bed as a structure for the tubular bells made from scraps that were lying around.

Tomato and cucurbit vine still struggling on through late Autumn, Gotu Cola the beautiful hardy little Shri Lankan “arthritis’ herb and ground cover also still surviving and thriving along with some seedlings from home veggie garden; Rocket, Calendula(edible flowers), SilverBeet, Coriander,Garlic Chives and cuttings of Carpobrotus Pig Face and round baby pig face .
If the plants grow maybe they will grow into fine musicians their leaves brushing against the bells in gentle breezes, later maybe snow peas, and beans can grow up the tree and bells to quieten everything down. Frosts, intermittent rain and rabbits will I guess be just some of the challenges .You can hear some recording of these bells with some of the local bird chorus as well here-4 layers with one layer slowed down for 'bass' part.. https://soundcloud.com/edmundio1/tubular-tree-bells-with-cockatoos-correllascurrawongs-and-parrots

Tubular Bells recorded in Art & Ecology Studio and Residence Garden combined with small Kalimba and processed digitally for slightly melancholy/sombre soundtrack for "Moving through Forest"

Improv Between Yarrow Potted Plant to  two Synthesizers , Bushland birds and insects and piano
-- --the piano notes and chords were played in response to hearing the bushland recording trying to mimic or fit into the soundscape of the birds and then the yarrow plant was recorded and mapped to two synthesizers.
