Beehive Function Room Projection set up early evening- Photo Credit: Bill Bryson
Excerpt of Video Projection on two walls with first experiment integrating Andre Sardone's great kinetic flower like sculptures picking up reflections of the projection and casting animated silhouettes onto the wall projection.
Video Playlist for Residency Showcase
Conflux @ the Beehive Building 9/9/22
This work includes experiments with different ways to listen to nature with human senses and data sensors. Nature is always listening to us from the tiniest little cell hairs on single celled organisms to the largest mammal and everything in between.
Between these communities of lifeforms, exchanges and forms of communication take place, in micro and macro scales and wavelengths beyond and within human perception. Scents on a breeze, sound waves and atmospheric pressure, textures of touch and sight, impressions of movement are just some features of this connective flux of communication and exchanges.
These video artworks are contributions to these exchanges.

DETAILS ABOUT EACH VIDEO.
- Bark Music. 2 mins 30 seconds
- This video used the photo seen in the video as a source for sound synthesis in a software that can translate the color values in an image to frequencies and stereo placement. The image is scaned from left to right across the picture with choseninstrumentation, duration or tempo and frequency scale( from major /minor other scales and microtonal tunings). For this instrumentation I mostly applied a custom built sample instrument made from recording percussion and broken piano sounds in the home shed.
- Waves and Fields of influence. 2 mins 30 seconds
- This is one example of many experiments taking data from the Bendigo Tafe's weather station translated into musical data such as "midi" or images as sound sources "sonograms". The image was created with associations of magnetic fields and barometric pressure diagrams and was set up to react to the amplitude and rhythm of the frequencies in the music which in turn was determined by the weather data , in this example data of leaf wetness, temperature and rainfall over the period of July through August in Bendigo.

- Wordless Threads. 4 mins 0 seconds
- This was one of the first videos I completed in the first couple of weeks of the residency at Bendigo TAFE. The image started off as abstracted Timelapse footage of clouds at first adding simulation painterly like splotches and then further adding thread like texture. The title refers to the vital and essential connecting threads that never speak in word but hold us all together. The threads of experience, time, place, and the community of all life that sustains and bind us together are like wordless threads. Like islands in the clouds , associations, memories, and moments of focus and clarity disappear and re-appear constantly changing within themselves and in relation to each other. Frozen water droplets melt in a cathartic downpour. Tears of fungi and bacteria mingle and talk with plants and people.
- Biomorphic Imaginings Pt1. 2 mins 30 seconds
- This project started with a vision of Seedpod houses, buildings that grow , regenerate and change with the seasons, the dreams of plants and fungi.
- Ancient Lifeforms & Landscapes. 4 mins 15 seconds
- This imaginary mighty morphing landscape that blurs the difference between plants, animals and buildings, responds to the impossible to know, nor even imagine, millions of years of evolution of planet earth.
- We are the food of Life. 4 mins 10 seconds
- Made as part of a Creative Gastronomy Residency, during July- October 2022, at Bendigo TAFE Food and Fibre Centre of Excellence. I spent several hours fascinated peering through a microscope and capturing digital frames animating focus and position of prepared slides tiny slivers of animal organs, plant tissue from roots stems and leaves including Corn,Fern ,Helianthus, Marchantia polymorpha(liverwort), algae and bacteria. This video imagines being able to simultaneously see through multiple layers of cells all at once. The title refers to these replicating, interacting and diversifying cells that are the food of life and also are in fact food for each other. In the community of life of plants and animals, including ourselves, everything is naturally food at some point in their life-cycle. The music attempts to create the sense of multiple rhythms and energy interacting with each other.

- Hellebores 2 mins 30 seconds
- I tried to capture just some of the diversity of forms, colors and flower structures on show at the Post Office farm Production Nursery- photographed on a visit as part of Gastronomy Residency at Bendigo TAFE Food and Fibre Centre of Excellence. I created the soundtrack music mixing environment, bell and other instrument sound sources with contrasting harmonious and slightly dissonant musical patterns with the intention of capturing the restful beauty, mysterious and even gothic connotations of Hellebores with their heritage including witchery and alchemy, natural insecticide, toxicity and even medicinal properties. This amazing flower species have travelled the world and these specific flowers are literally the result of decades of delicate and heavy manual work hand pollinating with tweezers, re-potting tiny seedlings and caring for each plant for at least three years.
