BRANCHING IN NEW DIRECTIONS:
I do alot of work with computers making audiovisual artwork and teaching others. The timber ornament and jewellery making is a great tonic and a chance to create something with my hands much more directly and simply. I find this immersive, relaxing, surprising and immensely satisfying. Each item becomes its own design, created by nature and human nature.,The wood is selected from recycled timber offcuts and mostly sourced from pruned branches and seed pods of Casuarina, Poplar and Eucalypt species planted and grown on ten acres of revegetated farmland in Central Victoria. The ornaments are intended to gently reflect the beauty of nature including your own nature. Every time you touch, wear or look at them this connection can become stronger.
You can imbue this modern day organic talisman or 'touchstone' with all your hopes and dreams or simply an evolving reminder of your greatest potentials, connections, love and contributions to the world. In simple terms. these objects can find a home as a fascinating unique brooch, or pendant, wall hanging, wallet or purse charm, desk or bedside table ornament..
If forests can think maybe they have some messages for us. These objects can be seen as the results of interactions with the thoughts of trees. The objects await to help and interact with your own thoughts and tactile handling.
“ The Studio “ / where and how is this work made...
the mobile studio:
sometimes my studio is a seat (or floor) on a two hour train trip 3 or 4 days a week.
the mobile studio: Over 15 years of this travel, innumerable hours of practice and development of animation and sound work on laptop studio have taken place , and maybe my ticket fares should have bought me a carriage or two by now :).
the grounded studio:
other times I am extremely appreciative of my good fortune of living in a semi-rural setting with the spacious built and natural studio space this provides for me.
I have recently started afresh with a new studio built from scratch( after a serious previous shed/studio fire). This has been a learning experience of letting go of many recent artworks plus over twenty years of collection of artifacts, junk and pop culture treasures.... and a chance to begin again...possibly hoarding less and selecting more purposefully...but we will see!
