Floating Upside Down Garden.
Floating Upside down Garden.
Floating in space on a spinning globe. A florist shop gone wrong? A web of strings, representing mycelium networks, fungi and bacteria, connecting and supporting, dried flowers, vines and roots hanging upside down from them. All materials were collected from my ‘veggie garden’ and dried over the last two years.
Ironically this set up for me brings into question the whole western concept of a ‘garden’. Is a garden something we, as human animals, wish to control and make as if separate from ‘nature’ , ‘the wild’ or ‘bush’. I try, but cannot always maintain, a reciprocal way of working in our shared environment. Is our shared environment actually, already, one large, lovely, self organising garden?

1. Basic Documentation single take footage of installation with composed soundscape
2. Ambient/Atmosphere edited and layered from various detail and framing of the element in this kinetic sculpture.
Floating upside down garden: on one level just playing with subtle movement of objects of fascination /distractions within veggie garden. On another level also a response to thinking about how plants fungi and animals collaborate and communicate in complex networks. Abstracting from footage of the sculptures brings out their natural textures, and layering them creates vague impressions of forests and water. .
First Night Projection and Lighting Tests.
First testing of night set up with Projection, Custom Effect Light and skilled video Lighting by Chris Poynton .
Chris spent a considerable amount of thoughtful time almost meditatively setting , planing and filming the installation set up as if it were an actual installation. Footage from this shoot will be available in a week or two.
In the meantime here is a little of my phone documentation of one little section of the set up.
